Cyber-bullying

Cyber-bullying, naturally, is a relatively new phenomenon. While one could find examples of rude, malicious, and harassing behavior going back to the first days of email, AOL, and instant messaging, what is referred to as cyber-bullying today has grown alongside Web 2.0 and social networking.
Cyber-bullying is often used to refer to attacks made against minors, while harassment of adults is generally called cyber-stalking. Both are demonstrably harmful to the victim, and often there is little that victims and law enforcement can do.

  2. In Massachusetts, there was a girl ‘Phoebe Prince’ who took her own life on Jan 14th 2010 due to the cyber-bullying. After this tragedy, the anti-bullying legislation has been passed that it requires schools to report and investigate bullying cases. The new law attempts to address the ambiguities surrounding a school’s role in bullying and cyberbullying cases. These efforts would bring clarity to a school’s role in dealing with bullying and to support teachers and staff with the right training to be most effective in that role.

Thanks. I wrote about the specific reaction of the state government of MA.

    Comment:
Currently, we see a lot of cases of cyber bullying happening around the world and more and more people take their own lives. Cyber bullying has more power than just bullying because many unknown people can join the activity very quickly and easily under the condition of anonymity and 24-hour access to the Internet. It is a rapidly growing side effect of the Internet and thus I think it must be stopped before it hurts more people. Government actions should be taken to some extent and more importantly, people should be morally educated to be able to acknowledge the significance of this problem.

People using the app "kakao talk" randomly pick the cell phone number and invite his/her chat room continuously. There's only way to get out of this jail is to click on "exit" but people in the room will invite him/her back and forth. This will affect battery running out quicker and block signals from the others. Kakao talk is now developing the function for getting rid of this, but this is still ongoing issues with kakao talk user. According to the enormous number of kakao talk users, this is severe concerning of app developer as well. People even try to trace someone's personal information through user's ID and cell phone number.

  15. Karen.
there has been several cyber tragedies in korea which lead people to suicide in the end. Mostly the people who were targeted were celebrities. In case of EUNEE, a korean dance singer, she suffered from so many malicious comments about her on popular korean cyber web sites like cyworld, and cyber news articles. she was insulted by haters on the ground that she once (or more times) had plastic surgery, and she enjoyed performing 'kind of' sexual dances as if she was a prostitute. The haters eventually made rumors of her and these bad comments on her spreaded out all over the cyber spaces. Also, there were people who tried to stalk her not only in the cyber world, but also in the real world. eventually her reputation was dropped off and unrecoverably hurted, and her private life was seriously invaded by the stalkers. Even though most of the rumors of her were actually groundless and baseless, she'd got a social phobia that she thought all the people on the earth would hate her, and this made her start refusing to meet anybody. eventually, she killed herself as if there was no another choice.
